So here we go. First let me explain Roy and I have owned for lo these six years, a Fixer-Upper. We got a lot done the first couple of years, then what with kids and jobs and my general aversion to painting, things slowed way down. Until recently. Roy's been working on our garage. But I'm getting ahead of myself.
Here's a view from the street. Perhaps I shouldn't include a street-view shot of the house for fear of ninjas lying in wait, but I've lived in this town long enough, if someone really wants to know where I live, they can ask the lady at the grocery store. I'll just have to trust if someone comes here with evil intent, they will know what Jonathan Edwards meant when he referred to sinners in the hands of an angry God. And, yes, the grass needs cutting. And there's something resembling a partial, dried-out mote near the front door. Eventually (Mr. Man promises me) there will be a covered veranda there.
Living room/dining room.
Uhm. Kitchen. Don't really know what to say. It's no showplace now, but you should have seen it when we bought the place. Yech.
I love going into someone's house and checking out their refrigerator. Refrigerators and bookshelves say a lot about people. So what does this one say about us? Well, that's me in the blue dress with a very dear friend. I'm about six months pregnant with Madeline. That's a bottle of champagne in my hand and a cigar in my mouth. I didn't drink any; I didn't smoke it. But I love the picture. Below that (next to me in the WW I biplane) is Roy with his best friend; Roy's face is partially obscured by cigar smoke. He wasn't pregnant (and he rarely indulges anyway). The magnets are from England, New York, D.C. and Luckenbach, Texas. One of my favorites is a gift from Elise. It's a Davy Crockett quote: "You may all go to hell, and I will go to Texas." Perhaps not the warmest sentiment (hell notwithstanding), but if I'm going to be generally reviled for being a Texan, I may as well earn it.
Bedroom/office/blogging central. At the opposite end of the room, are the built-in bookshelves and window seat Roy built. Mad and Connor have their own rooms, but I figured I'd better draw the line somewhere with all these pictures. You might notice our windows aren't framed-out (same with the windows behind the living room sofa). They used to be, but we recently had most of our windows replaced, and that's work still to be done. The joys of a house built in the '30s.
OK. I mentioned Roy is working on the garage, which is connected to the back side of our house by a screened-in porch (a MUST here in Texas). He's resided/painted half of it.
So that's about it. Thanks for stopping by.

Is that East Texas?! Why am I in the living in drought conditions in San Antone when I could be seeing green?!
That's beautiful. I especially love the natural light that fills your elegant main space.
Thanks for posting.
I LOVE older homes, but I know the work that they require. Yours is beautiful. I love the bright kitchen and the colorful bottles in the dining room. Thanks for the tour!
I know where Athens is. Hey, from East Texas south of Athens.

I love the light in your home, Toni. And the red trim around the kitchen door is really nice. Your refrigerator says it all about you - warm and inviting and probably just comfortable to be around. (LOVE your beautiful hardwood floor.)
Your house looks beautiful and so spacious and light.
We owned a home for a few years built in 1875, and you have just made me miss every aspect of it - the hardwood floors, built-ins, lots of windows, spacious rooms, etc.... Looks like you're doing a great job making this one home.
Hi, Toni. I love your hardwood floors! And what is your young'un concentrating so hard on figuring out? LOL :-)
I really like the wall of storage space in the kitchen, and is that your car keys hanging on a hook on the fridge? I think your fridge is exactly like mine...except yours probably doesn't need cleaning nearly as badly as mine does. ;-)
Grafted Branch, oh we're in puh-lenty of drought here, too. I just try to keep the front and side yard watered enough so we don't lose it entirely. The grass looks awful.
Addie, the bottle collection started accidently and I didn't know what else to do with them. Worked out well.
Barb, thanks for the frig love. Back at ya. And I'm glad to finally get some positive feedback on the red door trim in the kitchen. Roy STILL isn't so sure.
Renee, 1875?! My word. So you know about fixer-uppers. And our house is fairly spacious, but not large. All the windows help. (Except when you have to replace all of them for five billion dollars.)
Diane, I realized as I was taking the picture Connor was trying to pry out frozen Cool-Aide from the Mickey Mouse-shaped ice tray. (This was SO a gift; Mickey Mouse shaped ice is not something that would naturally occure to me to purchase.) Yes, that's my keys on the frig. You know what they say about not being able to find your, uhm, tukus, with both hands? That's me. Keys must go there.
Okay. Any girl who trims out her kitchen doorway in red is my FRIEND FOR LIFE. Love the blue bedroom, too. Your house is just gorgeous - exactly what I would want if I were courageous enough to tackle an older home.
But I'm such a coward. :-)
Thanks, Toni, for doing this - if it weren't for this DIAL UP at my parents', I'd be making much faster progress getting to everyone's posts. Sigh. :-)
I love older homes.. I wish I had the patience to fix one up! You're home is fabulous!
You have a very lovely home! I really like the colour of the bedroom!
Toni, I LOVE this bloggy tour--I've been wondering what your home looks like! :) I'm sighing here, in my not-quite 4 year old home that we bought new. Yes, it's virtually maintenance-free, but it's also virtually character-free, too. I have to do ridiculous things like paint my kitchen cabinets to make it my own:) Your home is beautiful, and I'm with Boomama--I'll be friends with anybody who's brave enough to paint trim red--love it!
What a gorgeous home! Thank you for the tour!
Please stop by my place...it isn't much, but it's home- and the coffee's still brewing! :)
Blessings,
~Tammy
Ohh, I LOVE your blue bedroom! Blue is my color and that's a lovely shade.
Thanks for the tour!
I love your bedroom! THe color is outstanding... Your home is wonderful. The floors, built-ins it's all beautiful!
Thanks for the tour.
I've had the priviledge to visit this home as well. Roy and Toni could live next to the city dump with smell and all and you would enjoy being there because they make everyone feel at home. The screened in porch is the coolest. And the blue bedroom with white trim inspired Eric to paint a bathroom and then an office blue.
Oh! I love your hardwood floors and the wide open spaces. I love older homes and your's is just beautiful!
It's just beautiful, I love that you got to fix it up yourselves!!
Your home is precious. I love the hardwood floors and built ins! Just love it!

Your living/dining room is just gorgeous! I love the hardwood - beautiful!
Oh, wow. Very cool house! I love your hardwood floors, red doorway, lots of windows, big bedroom, should I go on? Yes, your home fits you because I am thinking you're pretty cool yourself, judging from your posts. Now, if I can talk my husband into that kitchen remodel...
It's beautiful! Looksl ike an English house from the outside.
I was surprised to find your home is in Texas. I clicked the link thinking you were another European, in Greece. I had no idea there was an Athens in the USA!)
Sue (from England but living in Cyprus - the country, that is, since I gather there's also a town called Cyprus somewhere in the USA)
Thanks so much for sharing your home with us..it's a beautiful home and I just love the blue walls in your bedroom. I love it when people aren't afraid to use bright colours on their walls:-)
Loved your pics! Your house is beautiful! We've owned a fixer upper for 6 years and will be selling it on Tuesday for almost twice the amount we bought it for. All your hard work is worth it. And the time you haven't been able to spend on it, because your priorties like children, wife, etc have taken over, is a treasure that you have stored up in heaven!
Oh my, I really dig your house. I love old homes and this one is so unquie!
Your house is just gorgeous!
Just lovely! Thank you! I enjoyed your tour!

Wow! Y'all are doing an incredible job. It's beautiful. Maybe there will be a "Second Annual Tour" and we'll get to see the completed garage?
Thanks for the peek inside!
i love your house! the living room is great. it's so open and i love love love hardwood floors! i think it was you who asked where i got my computer desk--i honestly have no idea. my parents bought it years ago and passed it on to me. it was probably from office max/depot but i'm not sure. sorry i'm not much help. thanks for stopping by!
I think your kitchen looks great and I love the built in cabinets!

What a gorgeous home, I LOVE brick homes, hence can't wait to move back to TX. I also love your hardwood floors! Good for ya'll, unfortunatel to take the time & money to fix it up. My husband and I are the furthest from fixer-uppers. We don't have a fix-up bone in our bodies. Good for you and hubby it looks awesome!
Loved the tour! Ya'll are better than us...we have only been here 2-1/2 years and slowed down a long time ago with the redos. I am "fixin" to get back on my redo horse and tackle the upstairs.
I really like older houses. They have so much character... like arched doorways and such. Your living room/dining room area is gorgeous.
Thanks for the tour!
Stunning!!! I love the floors!
Your fridge makes me smile- I can feel the warmth of your family!
My, my, - your house is absolutely gorgeous. I feel right at home. You have love permeating your home.

Toni- I LOVE the color of your bedroom walls. Stunning-- what is it? Can you email me ???
Your home is beautiful- simple, but elegant. And old homes are the best! We had one that was from the late 1800's- if J made coffee while I was blowdrying my hair? Poof. The great blackout of 2001 all over again. Every day. Ugh.
I don't know how, but I lost you off bloglines. Veu, safley, securely tucked back in - right where you belong :)
